Wednesday Night's Alright For Blogging

On Saturday, I finished Cakes strong with some adorable cupcakes for a Primary luncheon:

I made cream cheese whipped cream frosting and I will never make another frosting as long as I live. It almost didn't make it to the cupcakes, I liked it so much. That's saying a lot, as I usually end up scraping frosting off my baked goods.

Sunday started Pies for my Year of Bakes. Piemaster Julie led me through her world-famous strawberry pie:

I want to try hand pies/pasties, a pie with a lid (chicken pot, probably) and maybe a slab pie. So many pies! This is technically Pies/Tarts month, but I don't know if I'll get to any tarts. They could count as Pastries, too, maybe? So perhaps I'll just shift them along.

I also finished watching Akage no An, the Anne of Green Gables anime that Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki worked on in the 70s. It was SO delightful. Anne's imagination can really come to life when it's animated. :) Now to find something new for my Japanese watching!

I started reading The Fellowship of the Ring because I've never actually read LOTR and it's on my shelf so I have to. I'll finally get that nerd cred I was missing.

That's really it for this week. Next week is week 52(!) so I guess you'll get a one year update!

Cake, Movies, and a Glimmer of Hope!

This week I baked the cutest cake in the world, as evidenced by the 98 likes on Facebook:
As part of our no spending months, Hubster and I have been going to International Cinema. We've seen 8 films there so far -- 2 of which have been documentaries, and the other 6 were foreign films, so they've counted for 2 of my goals!

At International Cinema they're doing a frequent fan card this semester, and you get a t-shirt for watching 10 movies! We're pretty much there! We'll see numbers 9 and 10 this week, and then probably still see a few more, because there are still more that look good.

Good news: Julie tells me that when you donate blood they mail you a donor card later, so I may still have hope to find out my blood type without any extra work. Fingers crossed!

An attempt at item #74

Which of course is to find out my blood type and donate, if possible.

Our stake had a blood drive this past Saturday, so I thought, perfect opportunity! I'd tried to donate in the past but my iron has always been too low. Doctors confirmed I was anemic and since I've been taking iron supplements, I thought I might stand a chance to donate now.

All was clear and good (yay iron!) and they got me up on the chair and needled. A few minutes into it I started feeling light headed, but I wanted to make a full donation, so they coached me to lift my legs and cough to get the blood flowing. Towards the end my legs started seizing up. My speech slurred and then I couldn't move any part of my body. It was terrifying to say the least.

I'm obviously okay (hello, I'm typing this!), but in all the hubbub I didn't remember to ask about blood typing. I did manage to make a full donation, so I guess I'm technically partially done on this one? I've seen typing kits on Amazon, so I might just take matters into my own hands. Who knows if I'll ever feel up to donating again.

Also, can we just tell my body to stop being such a jerk? My knee is still scabbed from my fall and now I have to deal with super sore legs from them you know, spasming. Heck. Just take it easy, bod.

Good Eats

So we finally graduated to a real TV and now it's so much easier to watch things we only have on our computers! We've celebrated by watching like 7 episodes of Good Eats (item #3). I have plans to make cottage cheese, koolickles, and marshmallows soon!

We also finished Series 3 of the Great British Bake Off, which isn't super related to my list, but does provide baking inspiration!

We're on Cake for my Year of Bakes, and I decided to make Mary Berry's own Victoria Sandwich cake. I think it turned out okay enough, but I don't know if Paul and Mary would have said it was a good bake.

Personally, the cake was a bit too sweet for me, but I'm glad I've made it! Other cake plans include cheesecake, roll cake, and a funfetti layer cake. Woooooo cakes!

Dang it!!

I forgot again. I was doing so well, too!

In my defense, I had a pretty traumatizing yesterday. After work, before hubster got home I was getting my Pokemon Go daily bonus when a Mareep showed up. We haven't caught her yet and she is super cute. See?

So I ran back to see if hubster had gotten home because he hecka needs a Mareep, too. As I was running, my right leg just kind of gave out, and I biffed it on the concrete. I scraped one knee pretty badly and bruised the other. Trying to catch my fall, I bruised my hands as well.

So I hope you'll forgive me for forgetting. I added 10 forget/miss days into this goal as this is my third, I think, so I'm still okay according to the list. :)
